Lightweight 4K laser engineering projection-Baosila BV6H experience

Today, projectors have been applied in various aspects of our lives, such as cultural venues, shopping mall exhibition halls, and theme parks, playing an important role in our daily lives.Based on different usage scenarios and requirements, projectors can be divided into two major categories: consumer and commercial/educational engineering.

Consumer projectors are typically more affordable, have attractive designs, and come with a rich set of features and configurations. These projectors are suitable for home entertainment, personal office use,or small meetings. They are characterized by their compact size and portability, allowing for quick setup.

On the contrary,commercial/educational engineering projectors focus more on brightness, compatibility, and stability due to their primary use in commercial settings. These projectors are commonly used in large conference rooms, classrooms, lecture halls, and other venues where they need to project bright and clear images.Therefore,commercial/educational engineering projectors usually have higher brightness levels to display clear images even in well-lit environments.Additionally, these projectors have enhanced compatibility, allowing them to connect with devices and create seamless images, thus projecting more complex graphics to meet the needs of various occasions and creative requirements. Moreover, these projectors emphasize stability and durability, ensuring long-term stable operation and adapting to various complex working environments. These characteristics are beyond the capabilities of consumer projectors, which is why the prices of engineering projectors are higher.

Boxlight has recently updated its engineering product line with the BV6H.This is a DLP 4K engineering projector that has been enhanced in terms of brightness, color, and installation compatibility, better meeting the creative display and interaction needs of various cultural venues.

Comprehensive Interface

BaoShiLai is a projector brand positioned for industry applications, which is different from other personal consumer projector brands. Its products are mainly aimed at the commercial, educational, and engineering fields, such as the Venus,Route66+,Aurora,Adonis,Monalisa,and Beverly series. However,BaoShiLai also has products for the personal consumer market, such as the A3 series. For example,we have previously reviewed the BaoShiLai A3UL,and this time we are reviewing the BV6H from the BaoShiLai Beverly series of engineering projectors.

We understand that products typically used in engineering applications tend to have a more traditional and modest appearance design, lacking the relatively flashy appearance of personal consumer products. The BaoShiLai BV6H is no exception, adopting a classic design that is common among traditional projectors, which looks quite simple. With a flat and square appearance, the entire body is mainly black and can be applied to various engineering application scenarios. Its body size is 473mm × 338mm × 151mm,and the weight is around 7.1kg,which is larger and heavier than the BaoShiLai VU546ST we reviewed before. However, for many engineering project uses, the projectors are usually fixed or ceiling-mounted,so there are not many requirements for size and weight.

The front part of the BaoShiLai BV6H is where its lens and remote control signal reception module are located.Like the lens of the VU546ST,it does not come with a dust cover. The advantage of this design is convenience, especially for ceiling-mounted use where a dust cover is rarely needed. The downside is that the lens may require cleaning after extended use to remove dust.Above the lens, there is a recessed area; pressing the cover will cause it to pop up,revealing two knobs that can adjust the image shift vertically and horizontally. It supports a wide range of image shift: vertical ±60% and horizontal ±23%.

Additionally, there are two knobs outside the lens for manual focusing and zooming.Currently, this method of using physical knobs for image shift and focusing is only retained in commercial projectors.Personal consumer projectors typically use autofocus, achieved through sensors.Of course, the BaoShiLai BV6H also supports automatic adjustment, but automatic adjustments may sometimes result in less than ideal outcomes.Manual adjustments can achieve more precise control, eliminating concerns about the machine's autofocus potentially causing repeated focusing issues.

On the left and right sides of the body are the ventilation and heat dissipation ports of the BaoShiLai BV6H.However,the intake part does not have a filter. The intake provides a 92mm cooling fan, while the exhaust provides two Delta Electronics cooling fans, one of which is a 105mm fan with the specific model number "NFB10512HF",and the other is a 92mm fan with the specific model number "AUB0912HJ-00".Next to the exhaust fan,it is also equipped with a speaker with a power of 10W.If the requirement for sound quality is not high, this speaker is more than sufficient.BaoShiLai BV6H,as a professional engineering application projector, integrates multiple buttons on the side of the body for the convenience of multi-user operation, including power on/off,image adjustment, and function selection. All operations can be completed through the body buttons. In addition,it is equipped with a remote control for convenient image adjustment when the projector is ceiling-mounted.

In terms of interfaces,BaoShiLai BV6H is more comprehensive compared to ordinary home projectors. In addition to the common 2 HDMI,1 RJ45,and 1 USB Type-A interfaces,it also has some interfaces that are relatively rare in home projectors, such as RS232,Audio Out,12V Trigger,DisplayPort,Remote, and S/PDIF interfaces. It is particularly worth mentioning that for the common 3D projection in cultural and creative venues,it also has a set of input/output 3D interfaces. These rich interfaces can meet the needs of different engineering applications and facilitate industry users to wire.

The design of the DisplayPort interface allows BaoShiLai BV6H to directly adapt to more PC devices, providing users with greater flexibility and choice. In addition, the use of the 12V Trigger interface also allows it to interact with more peripheral devices. For example, when used with a 12V Trigger screen, users only need to press the power button, and the screen will automatically lower; when shutting down, the screen will also automatically retract.

Furthermore, after adding the RS232 control interface and RJ45 network control interface,BaoShiLai BV6H can support control and centralized management of multiple machines, providing users with a more convenient operation and management experience.Through the RS232 control interface, users can use the Pjlink protocol to manage the power on/off and switch the input source of multiple projectors.Users do not need to manually operate each projector one by one,but can manage the status of all projectors through BV6H in one stop. This not only improves work efficiency but also reduces tedious operation steps.

In addition,to meet the complex usage scenarios in engineering applications,BaoShiLai BV6H has also been specially designed for installation methods. It supports 720° all-round installation, and through an independent light source module and a special air duct system,it has achieved 720° installation of the projector in both vertical and horizontal directions.Such multi-angle installation allows it to adapt to various environments.

Whether it is installed above the ceiling,on the side of the wall,or on the ground,BaoShiLai BV6H can flexibly cope. Its independent light source module and special air duct system ensure the projection effect of the projector at different angles. This all-round installation method enables BaoShiLai BV6H to meet the needs of various engineering applications, whether it is shopping malls, museums, theme parks,or traditional meeting rooms, classrooms,or lecture halls,it can be easily installed and present excellent projection effects.DLP Display Technology Combined with Laser Light Source

Currently, there are two main display technologies for projectors on the market: DLP and 3LCD.In many home projectors, models using DLP technology are commonly seen.DLP technology utilizes a digital micromirror device (DMD) chip inside the projector to form images through mirror reflection. On the other hand,3LCD uses three LCD panels for red, green, and blue to form images, and its projected images have better color performance compared to single LCD models.However,3LCD faces issues such as lattice phenomena and LCD panel aging,so relatively speaking,DLP offers better performance and a longer lifespan.Additionally,3LCD is more prone to crosstalk issues due to the inherent latency of liquid crystals.Even so,objects with high contrast between light and dark areas may still exhibit slight trailing issues in 3LCD projection, whereas DLP feels no presence of crosstalk.

For engineering projectors that require 3D image projection,DLP technology excels in 3D projection.Especially for high-brightness engineering projectors,DLP technology can perfectly display 3D effects, immersing the audience.

Apart from display technology, the light source is also a crucial component of projectors.Common light sources include LED,mercury lamps, and lasers.Early projectors mainly used mercury lamps, but due to their high heat generation, short lifespan, and high maintenance costs, many projectors have started to use LED light sources as a replacement. However,LED light sources have relatively lower brightness, making them more popular in the home projector market. At the same time, laser light sources have compensated for the shortcomings of LEDs.Nevertheless, the cost of laser light sources remains high, and home projectors using laser light sources are typically priced above 5000 yuan, with most even exceeding ten thousand yuan. The BaoShiLai BV6H is a projector that uses a laser light source, with a light source lifespan of over 20,000 hours and very gradual degradation.

Furthermore, the BaoShiLai BV6H employs a multi-laser module light source,so even if one laser diode fails,it will not affect the overall use.The brightness of the BaoShiLai BV6H reaches 6000 lumens, which is considered high brightness among engineering projectors. When projecting large images, high brightness ensures the display effect of the image.Even when used during the day, with an excellent anti-light screen, good results can be achieved. For the actual brightness performance,we will conduct a detailed test later. In addition, the BaoShiLai BV6H also uses dynamic aperture technology, achieving a dynamic contrast ratio of 3,000,000:1.High contrast provides better light and dark contrast effects, making the details of light and dark images more vivid.

Long and Short Throw Lenses are Interchangeable

The BaoShiLai BV6H supports a maximum resolution of 3840×2160,which can project clear images even when used in large auditoriums or conference rooms.Although it is not a short-throw projector,it can project a 100-inch image within a minimum distance of 3 meters. If placed at a distance of 6 meters,it can project an impressive 200-inch image, making it very suitable for various large venues. The throw ratio refers to the proportional relationship between the distance of the projector and the width of the projected image. In this projector, the throw ratio range is 1.36 to 2.18:1.This standard focal length projector is very suitable for project engineering scenarios and can also be hidden by吊装 to avoid obstruction of the lens light source, making the use process smoother. In addition, this type of projector also has the characteristics of convenient installation and debugging, which can facilitate the overall construction plan design and wiring connection.

In addition, the BaoShiLai BV6H also uses a 1.6x large aperture lens, which allows it to adapt well to complex usage environments. The large aperture lens has a stronger light collection ability, providing clearer and brighter projection effects in darker environments. Therefore, even in situations with insufficient light or other interfering factors, the BaoShiLai BV6H projector can maintain excellent projection effects.Additionally, the BaoShiLai BV6H projector offers two quick-release interchangeable lenses to meet various spatial requirements, ensuring a superior visual experience for users with high brightness uniformity and high MTF values suitable for 4K ultra-high-definition image output. For scenarios requiring a short-throw lens, the short-throw lens provided by BaoShiLai has a throw ratio of 0.81 to 0.89:1,allowing for larger images to be projected at shorter projection distances.Importantly, the short-throw lens features no light loss and no brightness attenuation, ensuring a consistently abundant brightness output for projection. Moreover,it supports 1.1x optical zoom, providing greater environmental adaptability for short-distance installations. This allows users to flexibly install and adjust according to actual needs, achieving satisfactory projection effects even in small venues. We specifically inquired with BaoShiLai that the cost for purchasing the short-throw lens separately is approximately 6900 yuan.Of course,if you only need short-distance projection, you can also directly choose BaoShiLai's short-throw model: BV6HS,which can project a 200-inch image at a distance of less than 4 meters.

Supports Multi-Point Grid Correction

The BaoShiLai BV6H is a high-specification engineering projector, differing from ordinary commercial projectors with its strong adaptability to various application scenarios.Compared to ordinary commercial projectors, the BaoShiLai BV6H is more flexible and diverse in projecting graphics, capable of meeting the demands of complex environments such as cultural venues by projecting curved and irregular shapes to enhance interactive effects.Ordinary commercial projectors often fail to meet such special requirements, but the BaoShiLai BV6H professional engineering projector can easily tackle this challenge due to its multi-point grid correction feature. The BaoShiLai BV6H is equipped with an advanced correction module, supporting 10x6 point (9x5 grid) geometric correction through its unique "distortion" function, with a maximum of 60 points adjustable. This allows it to adapt to various special environments and meet different usage needs, enabling the projector to achieve excellent imaging effects on uneven projection surfaces.

Taking cultural venues as an example, these venues often have irregular projection surfaces, such as circular, curved,or other complex shapes. The multi-point grid correction feature of the BaoShiLai BV6H can easily handle these irregular projection surfaces, adjusting the positions of individual points to ensure precise projection of the image on these irregular surfaces, achieving excellent imaging effects. As a result, audiences in cultural venues can enjoy more realistic and vivid images, enhancing interactivity and improving the viewing experience.

In addition to cultural venues, the BaoShiLai BV6H can also be widely applied in other fields, such as conference rooms, educational institutions, and performing arts venues. In these places, projection requirements are often more complex and diverse, yet the BaoShiLai BV6H can easily handle them.Whether projecting onto curved screens in large conference rooms, interactive whiteboards in classrooms,or irregular stages in performing arts venues, the BaoShiLai BV6H can adjust the shape of the projected image through its multi-point grid correction feature, ensuring better clarity and realism in various special environments.

Furthermore, the BaoShiLai BV6H also has comprehensive features for the commercial sector. For instance,to ensure usage safety, administrators can set a password for the projector, effectively preventing unauthorized personnel from operating it without permission. The panel button lock function can prevent accidental touches, further ensuring the safe and stable operation of the equipment. In high-altitude environments, the high-altitude mode of the BaoShiLai BV6H can adapt to different air pressure and temperature conditions, ensuring that the projector can still stably output high-quality images in harsh environments.

High Brightness,Low Power Consumption,Minimal Heat EmissionWe understand that brightness is one of the most important parameters of a projector. The nominal brightness of the BaoShiLai BV6H is 6000 lumens (ISO brightness),which is more than three times that of many ordinary home projectors.Due to its high brightness,we can see that it brings a very bright picture when used in a conference room with the lights off during the day.At the same time,I tested the BaoShiLai BV6H with a professional illuminance testing device, the TES 1339 Light Meter Pro.Under a projection area of about 2.38 square meters, its average illuminance value is 2430 Lux,and the brightness is 5783 lumens. The brightness value is within a reasonable error range of the nominal value.Typically, the light source is emitted through the projector's interior, passes through the lens, and experiences some loss over long distances,so there will be some error in the actual illumination brightness.

The BaoShiLai BV6H offers an "energy-saving" light source mode, which consumes only about 249W in the "energy-saving" mode.Additionally, its power consumption in standby mode is only 0.3W to 0.4W.

When using the BaoShiLai BV6H,its heat generation is not high.Although the hot air expelled from the outlet can be clearly felt,I tested the highest temperature of its body with a thermal imager at 44.4°C (room temperature at 27°C),with the main heat source located at the body's outlet. We speculate that this position is also the light source area of the projector.Furthermore,we tested the noise performance of the BaoShiLai BV6H with a decibel meter.During operation,if you are about 30cm away from the body, you can hear the noise generated by the fan's heat dissipation.I measured the noise value of the BaoShiLai BV6H at a distance of 1m with a decibel meter, which is 39dB(A) in standard mode and 32dB(A) in energy-saving mode. The noise is relatively acceptable.Of course,if you mount it or play a demonstration video with the volume turned up,the noise can be completely ignored.

The BaoShiLai BV6H performs excellently in display performance.Through Mr.Qian Yuankai's "4K TV Resolution Test Chart," we can clearly observe the color block structure details of the BaoShiLai BV6H,and the line boundaries are also very clear. In addition, through the HSB color system color block chart and color distribution chart,we can see that the displayed color blocks are saturated, and there is no obvious merging phenomenon between the color blocks. At the same time, the different color areas in the color distribution chart present a triangular pattern, showing a good color distribution. In terms of tonal levels, the BaoShiLai BV6H also shows excellent performance. The 21-level gray scale in the spherical chart is clear, with no obvious jumping or merging phenomena. In the gray scale gradient chart, the transition of the gray scale is also very soft. This indicates that the BaoShiLai BV6H has excellent performance in tonal levels, capable of presenting delicate gray scale transition effects.

Furthermore, when the brightness is set to the highest, the light and dark levels of the BaoShiLai BV6H can both reach an ideal state. This shows that its brightness and contrast performance are excellent.Details in both the light and dark parts can be clearly displayed, making the picture more vivid and realistic. At the same time,I also observed whether there was any blurring in the clarity of the corners of the picture projected by the BaoShiLai BV6H.From the projected picture, the image in the corners is as clear as the center.

In conclusion,as a projector positioned in the engineering industry, the BaoShiLai BV6H has been specially designed to address the pain points of industry needs. For example, for scenarios like cultural venues, shopping mall exhibition halls, and theme parks that require high brightness and ultra-high-definition image quality,it has an ultra-high brightness of 6000 ISO lumens and 4K ultra-high-definition resolution.Especially for complex 3D images that require the combination of multiple projectors,it adopts multi-point grid correction functionality, making the projected images more distinctive and interactive. At the same time, the BaoShiLai BV6H is more flexible and free in terms of installation methods, supporting 720° all-around installation, and can adapt to various complex installation environments.
